Michael Stonhouse

Michael was raised on a farm outside Red Deer, Alberta. He did most of his growing up in Medicine Hat.

After post secondary education in Edmonton and Toronto, and work as a social worker in Edmonton, he served in a number of pastorates in Calgary, and two parishes in central Alberta, near Trochu.  He moved to Saskatoon in 1992, and after serving in an inner city parish there, moved back to small city life — a life he thoroughly enjoys — here in Lloydminster in 2007.

Michael is passionate about Jesus, and about how His life and grace are for all people — regardless of who they are, where they’ve come from, or what they’ve done.  He finds it incredible that God has given us His amazing grace, not because of our merit or deserving, but simply as a gift arising from His love for us.

Michael loves the Bible and delights in opening it up so that others might find it meaningful and helpful for their lives.  He has a special interest in rural and small town ministry and in fostering churches that are welcoming, missional, inclusive, vibrant and life-engaging.

Michael is rather diverse and eclectic in his interests which include: hiking, the out-of-doors, birds and the environment; reading, history, geology, and genealogy; and the arts, especially music and the theatre.  Some say he has a zany sense of humour.

Michael was promoted to Archdeacon in 2016
and retired in 2017.
