At St. John’s, learning and growing in God’s love and service are life-long processes. Accordingly, we offer a number of opportunities for this to happen.
For parents, we offer instruction as to the meaning of the baptismal vows they make on behalf of their children, and explain their role and responsibility in modeling and living out these vows in their own lives.
For children, we offer weekly Sunday school. We use Spark, a program for children age 2 to grade 6. Spark is Bible-centered, and encourages children to explore God's Word through a variety of appropriate activities designed to accommodate all the different ways that children learn.
For youth, we have confirmation classes to help them understand the faith, and renew their own commitment to Christ.
For adults, the weekly services are based on the Revised Common Lectionary. This roster ensures worshippers will hear most of the Bible read in church over a 3-year period, and that they hear ‘the whole counsel of God’ and not just the pastor’s favourite passages or themes. (Some sermons are available here)
From time to time, we also have Tuesday evening studies, usually based on a book or a film. In the past, we have studied various Alpha courses and Rick Warren’s The Purpose Driven Church. These studies normally run 4-6 weeks.
On Wednesday mornings, we have a Communion service which focuses on the life of an exemplary Christian from times past.
Spiritual nourishment is also offered through meetings of the Anglican Church Women (all women are welcome; meets first Monday of each month), Cursillo groupings, daily devotional guides, and The Anglican Journal.
